Due to Sunderlands involvement in the FA Cup the original fixture from Monday 2nd April was postponed and actually played on Wednesday 9th May four days after Sunderland won the cup at Wembley. This rearranged game was a bad tempered affair with the players having to leave the pitch because supporters encroachment caused by poor officiating.
